Dog-training web2apps: 50-year-old offers, reskinned
How to turn 20-year-old ClickBank offers into subscription apps — with the live ads to prove it.
Here's a category that has been making people rich in direct response for as long as direct response has existed: dog training.
The logic never changes. Dogs misbehave. Owners feel guilty. Guilt is the most reliable buying emotion there is. Put those together and you get a market that has funded mail-order fortunes, ClickBank empires, and now a wave of web2app subscriptions — all selling the same promise with the same short list of hooks.
Let me show you the through-line, then hand you the receipts: the exact ads the top dog apps are running right now, next to the classic offers they lifted them from.
First, the old money
Long before the quiz funnel, dog training was one of direct response's great laboratories. A few offers found a winning sales letter — direct mail called it "the control" — and then simply ran it. For years. For decades. Claude Hopkins named the whole game "beating the control" back in 1923; most of these never got beaten.
Secrets to Dog Training — a "From / Date" long-form sales letter, essentially unchanged since 2004. |
Brain Training for Dogs — the "Hidden Intelligence" curiosity hook + ClickBank badge. |
The Online Dog Trainer — "PROVEN," a ticking countdown, and a $1 trial behind it. |
A 256-page ebook sold on ClickBank behind one long-form sales letter, with a stacked "Mastery" upsell (house-training guide, health guide, videos). Two decades, one control.
The hook that won't die: "unlock your dog's hidden intelligence." 21 games, 7 levels, a flat $67, a 60-day money-back guarantee. Curiosity headline + risk-reversal, straight from the 1960s.
$1 for a 3-day trial, then $37/month. The dollar trial is a direct-response classic — it's been Dan's control for over a decade, wrapped around a membership rebill.
Now watch the apps run the exact same plays
The top web2app dog funnels — Woofz, Paw Champ, Raising Dog, Everdoggy — didn't write new ads. They opened the swipe file. Here's the proof, hook by hook.
Two rival apps, one 1975 sales pitch
Look at these two ads. One is Woofz's. One is Paw Champ's. They are, functionally, the same ad.

Two different apps, the same militarized "Printable K9 Discipline Challenge." Both captured Jul 21, 2026, from Meta's ad library.
A grizzled handler. A military backdrop. A "Printable K9 Discipline Challenge." A week-by-week promise — Week 1, barking may stop; Week 4, discipline kicks in. "7 minutes a day." A contrarian twist — no treats, no classes. And a flat, physical CTA: "Just Print It Now."
Every beat of that is a 1970s space-ad: qualify the buyer ("we're looking for owners who want real handlers"), agitate the problem, name a mechanism, promise a timeline, reverse the objection, close. Two competitors landed on the same creative because it's a control — the ad the category can't stop cloning.
When competitors converge on one creative, they're all telling you the same thing: it works. Don't burn budget guessing at a fresh angle — pull the ad your category keeps cloning, work out why it converts, and out-execute it.
The urgency close, aged in oak
Raising Dog sells a book — a personalized one, "Written for Emma & Bella" — and closes with the oldest lever in the drawer.

"LAST CHANCE TO SAVE 50%. Our sale is ending today." That's the scarcity deadline that's been closing mail-order sales since the Sears catalog — now aimed at a personalized-book funnel. Click it and you land here: a UGC-style "revolutionary dog training book" quiz, gender-first, that runs 36 questions before it asks for a dime.

The problem hook, translated
Everdoggy opens with pure problem-agitation — and it's a masterclass in the form.

"Are you yelling at your dog because he pees?" Then a benefit list, each with a timeframe: potty in 3 days, stop biting in 3 hours, stop barking in a day — "with just 7 minutes a day." Same mechanism-plus-timeline structure as the K9 ads, softer costume. The tell here is the language: this exact creative runs translated across markets — the DR hook is universal, it just gets a new dub. Its funnel opens on the same promise:
"Stop biting in 3 hours" — the ad's timeframe promise, restated on the funnel's first screen. Captured Jul 21, 2026.
The sales letter became a quiz
Behind Woofz's K9 ad is the fully-modernized version of the whole classic apparatus. A quiz profiles your dog. An "analyzing" screen builds anticipation. A plan reveal names your personal program. Then the price shows — behind a spin-wheel that lands on 61% off under a ticking clock.
The quiz — the sales letter's qualification step, gamified. |
The close — a 61%-off wheel + countdown. The mail-order "act now" box, spun. €13.89 for 4 weeks, from €35.63. |
The sales letter became a quiz. The "act-now" box became a wheel. The $1 trial became a €6.34 one. The offer underneath is identical.
The medium changed. The psychology didn't.
Letter, VSL, quiz funnel — the wrapper keeps updating. What's inside hasn't moved an inch since Hopkins: guilt, a mechanism, a timeframe, a deadline, a guarantee. The dog market just happens to be the cleanest place to watch it, because the same offers have been A/B-testing those five things on live buyers for fifty years.
The controls in your category are public. The ads competitors keep cloning, the offers that have run unchanged for a decade — that's a free, battle-tested swipe file. Study the structure, then rebuild it better.
Build a two-column swipe file: classic vs. current. Pick your niche's oldest ClickBank offer and its newest web2app funnel, and line them up beat for beat — hook, mechanism, timeframe, close. You'll see the same five moves every time. Copy the structure, never the words, and you've skipped years of testing someone else already paid for.
